Vision board parties have become the thing to do when the new year is coming around and you’re ready to redefine your future.

In my opinion, vision boards are the best way to leave an old, crusty year behind and walk into your new year brand new, rejuvenated and ready to make your past accomplishments look like blips on the radar.

Vision board parties literally have it all: good food, drinks, goal setting, crafts, knowledge sharing and (most important) a reason to brag about yourself. (Who doesn’t like a little humble bragging?)

That begs the question, is it possible to take an in-person experience like a vision board party and bring it online? The answer is a definite YES!

I've hosted a few virtual vision board parties and the majority of the process is the same. The biggest difference would be getting the attendees to feel "in the moment" enough to share their stories and get to know each other.

Here’s how to do a virtual vision board party your attendees will love.

The Tools

FOR THE VIDEO

For hosting the virtual vision board party, I use Crowdcast.

This is a super easy-to-use tool that allows you to broadcast to a live audience. (It’s so simple, I’ve had non-tech-folks tell me how much they love it!)

Crowdcast is perfect for vision board parties because this service allows up to 4 people to come onto the screen at the same time so your attendees can really get to know each other! In my events, I’ve had attendees jump on to the screen live to share their answers to questions I’ve asked the group.

Crowdcast will also accept ticketed events and even process the payments for you to making selling tickets to your virtual event super easy!

The Agenda

Your agenda will look similar to an in-person event.

Welcome: This is where you welcome guests and possibly share a tiny bit about you. You can ask guests questions and tell them what they have access to with the software you’re using. With Crowdcast, you’re able to invite guests live to share their story, they have a chat window and polls that they could use to engage. You’ll want to share all of these options with them at the beginning of the evening.

Icebreaker: These are simple “getting to know you” activities. I’ve discussed vision board party ice breakers in detail here.

Activity: Vision board parties are meant to get people thinking about what matters most in their lives and set goals. Walk through one or two activities to help your attendees think ask the important questions about what they really want out of their lives.

Tutorial: Every vision board party needs a tiny vision board tutorial. Here is where you tell attendees how to create a vision board that works. Creating effective vision boards typically consists of three phases: deciding on what big goal you want to work towards, thinking about how you’ll enjoy your life while in pursuit of that goal, and putting those ideas onto paper. Find out a fun way for you to share that with your audience.

PRO TIP #1: KEEP IT (RELATIVELY) SHORT

The party can be shorter, 1-2 hours. This depends on the time of day, whether the group becomes active and the conversation. I usually let the conversation flow and have gone up to 2.5 hours if things are going really well.

PRO TIP #2: BE READY FOR EVERYTHING

In person, you can control the room, the ambiance and what's going on in the background. You cannot do any of these things in a virtual party.

For example, in one virtual party a woman's kids ran up to her to say goodnight.

To keep the party fun, I chatted about her kids and wrapped parenting goals into the conversation.

When you're doing a virtual party - you have to be super flexible and ready for surprises.

PRO TIP #3: MAKE IT INTERACTIVE

Have activities for people to do and ask questions - wait for them to answer. People will be typing in response to what you’re saying in the event. Some people type slower than others. When you ask questions make sure you wait for people to type and respond to your questions before moving on to the next topic.

The Risk

The biggest benefit of a vision board party is taking that moment to yourself to stop worrying about what’s going on at home, work, hubby, the kids and focus on yourself for a moment. In it’s essence, it’s self care.

Moving vision board parties to online puts the self care benefit at serious risk.

In person, you can control the room, the ambiance and what's going on in the background. You cannot do any of these things in a virtual party.

If you’re thinking about hosting a virtual vision board party this year, give it a shot! This can be a great way to meet people online that you would never be able to interact with in person and add a more interactive form of communication with your audience.

How to Make Money Hosting Vision Board Parties

It definitely seems like vision board parties just popped up out of nowhere, right?

About four years ago, a good friend invited me to my first vision board party. At the time, I thought it was some woo-woo voo-doo that would never work.

But I was struggling in my life (going through a whole quarter-life crisis thing) so I agreed anyway.

That’s where I learned just how powerful vision board parties really are - and from that moment on, I never started a year without creating a vision board.

And I wanted to share vision boards with… EVERYONE.

So I started hosting my own vision board parties (naturally). Sometimes I made money, other times I didn’t but I consistently learned what worked and what didn’t work year after year.

After my fifth vision board party, I had a good handle on exactly what I could do to ensure I made a profit- Every. Single. Time.

Keep Your Costs Low

You can increase your chances of making money by not spending that much money in the first place. There are a lot of fancy things you can add to a vision board party to make it super fancy (like a venue, amazing decor or inviting expensive speakers) and those fancy things will cost you fancy money. You’ll have to sell enough tickets to be able to cover the cost of everything you paid for upfront - and then make a profit.

Marketing

No matter how much energy you put into planning your vision board party, you’ll need to sell tickets to be able to make any type of profit.

That’s where marketing comes in.

The more tickets you sell, the more opportunities you have to actually make a profit with your party. You can sell tickets through marketing on social media, email, building partnerships, working with affliates or talking to people you know.

All of these actions put together will expose more people to your event - and increase your odds of selling more tickets.

Pricing

Pricing is one of the most important focuses of your event - because if you price too low, you won’t break even on your expenses (or make a profit). On the other hand, if you price too high, people will not want to purchase tickets to your event.

Value

Your event has to totally deliver on the promises you made in the marketing material. If you tell people that you’re going to tackle their financial hardships, you have to make sure that you address their money woes to a point that they feel energized to go home and tackle their goals.

The benefit of hosting a super high value event is two-fold. When people are able to walk away from your event feeling like you helped them make a real change in their lives -they’ll want to come back again. They’ll also start to tell their friends about the event.

That means in the future you could charge more for that value.

You now have fans that will be interested in a future event from you.

You also have people who will go out and market your event for you because they’ll be telling their friends and family about it. #winning

Making money with vision board parties is totally possible! All it takes is a bit of planning, budgeting and providing enough value to your attendees to help them reach their goals.

xoxo

Everything You Need To Know About Creating A Vision Board

Vision boards seem like a vague idea, don’t they?

I mean, you’ll hear from several brilliant people that if you take some time to look through magazines, cut out some pictures and paste them to a poster board you’ll be able to manifest huge life changes.

That sounds a little bit crazy but trust me, the vision board rumors you hear are true.

Here’s everything I know about creating a vision board - from creating the goals to the visualization to making you dreams come true.

The Why

Why Your Dreams Need A Home

A few years ago, I was chatting with a friend who was simply overwhelmed by the massive ideas she had in her head. That inspired me to write this post. The process of building a vision board takes you out of the daily grind to focus only on your desires for the future. Your vision board gives your big dreams a place to come to life.

If you’ve ever been skeptical of creating a vision board (I sure was at the beginning) this post is a great place to start.

How Often Should I Update My Vision Board?

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for more info.

update your vision board.png

The first time I ever created a vision board, I was dating an amazing guy that I hoped one day would become my husband. (That's not saying much for me, I'm actually a huge romantic and hope EVERYONE will be my husband :)

I created my vision board with all of my goals on it and right in the middle of my vision board, I had pictures of a beautiful wedding dress and sparkling ring. I was sure that after all my years of bad dating, I'd landed a good one and this would be my year.

So I manifested it on my vision board.

About half way through the year, I found myself super single and replacing that beautiful dress on my vision board with more "goal-getter" quotes. (Because if I couldn't get my dream man, I was surely going to create my dream life anyway.)

I knew it was time to update my vision board - my future was different now. There was no man in my life to hope for a future with.

Sometimes the need to change a vision board is not so simple to identify.

Maybe you put a large goal on your vision board, but you don’t think you’ll really be able to accomplish it so you want to take that goal off your board because of FEAR.

It’s possible that you set a goal that will take several years to achieve so you want to take the goal off your vision board due to UNCERTAINTY.

In these cases, it could be easier to set a smaller, easier to attain goal so your vision board feels do-able. However, removing your goals in these cases will push you from dreaming big and into thinking small.

So when should you think about making a change to your vision board? Here are the three ways that I’ve come up with:

Your Future is Fundamentally Different

This is when something changes in your life and there is no way that goal you envisioned is going to happen.

In my earlier story, I knew there was no way I was getting engaged that year so it was clearly time to take the wedding dress off my vision board. Maybe you set goals to grow in your community and you end up moving across the country to a new place. Maybe you planned on becoming a sommelier (a wine expert) and then found out that you’re pregnant.

These are just a few examples of life changes that happen that mean it’s really time to alter your vision for your near future.

You gain clarity

During the same year I realized my relationship wasn’t working, I also decided to go back to school.

Pursuing my education was not something I planned on. In fact, I never really knew what to do with my professional life. I was attending a conference and by chance I met the owners of a small data startup that changed my life. They taught me how to take my general marketing knowledge and apply it in different ways that would skyrocket my value in the professional world.

It was like my whole world opened up and I finally could see where I needed to take my career.

When you get a huge sign of clarity on where to take your life, it’s your job to listen to that inner voice. Don’t feel guilty about removing the things that no longer serve you from your vision.

The person you are today doesn’t owe your past an explanation. Clarity is a great reason to change your vision board.

You're Inspired to Pick up a new hobby

There are times in your life where you decide to get off the couch, stop watching Netflix and instead spend that time doing something valuable. This would be something that you didn't see coming.

Earlier this year, my daughter went to her dad's house and I experienced my first full month without my child. Before she left, I thought I would enjoy that time and be more productive than ever. Instead, I felt very unsure of myself and realized that without my daughter I didn't really know who I was.

I didn't have a value system set up to prioritize things without her. I was lost

That summer, I decided to do the things I've always wanted to do and picked up singing as a hobby. I always wanted to sing professionally and I made the decision to start working towards it, even if it’s in small increments.

The decision to do something for you is always a good thing.

Your vision board is meant to manifest the dreams you have for your life. If your life has fundamentally changed in some way, feel confident removing the things that don't work to make space for the things you really want
