3 Burning Questions for Potential Vision Board Party Hosts

How To Stop Working Towards Someone Elses Dream.png

Starting a business or side hustle can be the greatest thing you ever do.

But I’ve seen first-hand how success can depend on the ‘WHY’ behind what you do.

When anyone comes to me wanting to start a vision board party business, I start by asking the BIG question.

‘Is your ‘WHY’ based on desire or desperation?’

If you have vision boards in your soul, a burning desire to help others, or to share your story with the world, then go preach, my friend.

But if you’re trying to get out of the situation you’re in, desperate for a lifesaver, and in full-on ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ mode, we need to have a serious conversation.

I’ve got three questions that will help you decide whether the vision board life is for you.

But first, here’s how I had my lightbulb moment.

When your ‘why’ is out of whack

When I hit rock bottom, I was so broke I couldn’t afford to feed myself, let alone my daughter.

She ate the leftovers from my work lunch meetings, and I would eat pretzels taken from the lobby of the office.

With bills up to eyeball and maxed out credit cards, I was sliding into a depression.

When you’re sitting in the darkness of rock bottom, you look for any speck of light and cling onto it for dear life.

If you’re a determined person, you don’t just go down, you go down SWINGING.

I REFUSED to give up on trying.

From starting an MLM business and a Mom Blog to selling arts and crafts boxes and setting up an Etsy shop to sell cards, I tried it ALL.

“If one of these things goes well, maybe we’ll be ok…”

Thinking I was driving myself forwards, I was actually digging myself further into debt by investing money I didn’t have in businesses that never took off.

Cue lightbulb moment sat at rock bottom eating pretzels!

My ‘WHY’ was all out of whack.

The reason I kept starting business after business was because I was desperate for financial stability. I wanted to eat without wondering whether I could afford to.

My ‘WHY’ was as desperate as they come.

Ever tossed a bunch of spaghetti at the wall to see if one sticks?

I threw the whole pan at the wall, and I don’t want that for you!

So I got rid of everything I had, focused on solving the reasons behind my desperate ‘why’, and THEN I started a business based on desire and passion.

Follow your passion rather than problem fixing

If you’ve never looked at your ‘WHY’, it’s time to sit down and get serious.

Are you passionate about vision boards and helping people, or whatever drives the business you’re looking to set up?

Or did you see someone doing it on social media claiming to have invested 10k and made a 6-figure income in a month, and you see this as a quick fix for your money troubles?

While these stories are sexy, what usually happens is you end up 10k more in debt.

What’s driving your ‘WHY’ is key before you even get your credit card out or set up your Instagram handle.

“I want to fix my finances, save my marriage, distract myself from the pain I feel in my soul….”

… my friend, vision board workshops are not your Ministry right now!

Figure out your stuff first, and THEN if you really want to do this, let’s go get it.

The Big 3 questions for clarity

If you still can’t work out whether you’re on the right path, there are 3 questions you need to ask yourself before you board a train to Vision Board Central.

Are you already into vision boards?

Made a vision board and seen the results for yourself, or helped others build vision boards and watched transformations happen?

If it’s yes, then get on that train, you’re heading in the right direction.

Do you teach and mentor people on a particular topic already?

If you’re helping or mentoring people and push them forward, and want to continue doing that with vision boards, this makes perfect sense.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

Is this something you’ve been thinking about for a while?

Have you been toying with the idea of hosting vision board parties but not yet taken the final step into ‘doing’?

It’s time to take action and get on board.

Make space for your passion and true vision

If you’ve never made a vision board, attended an event, mentored, or helped anyone, you’re entering the danger zone.

Ask yourself why you want to invest in this type of business and what you hope to gain.

It’s a hard conversation to have, and I want you to think about whether you REALLY want to do this work.

Be honest.

If it’s a no, that’s OK.

Free yourself from this moment and pursue something that actually matters to you.

If you’ve got problems to fix, do that first and then come back to vision boards.

Once you do, you’ll have space for your true ‘why’ to shine through and pursue a business that fills your soul.

Master Success with this 4-step Mindset Shift

You want to host vision board parties, but have you actually DONE anything about it?

If the answer’s ‘no’, the next question is:

‘Do you believe yourself when you say you’re going to do something?’

Be very honest, and take time with it, because the secret to your success lies in the difference between ‘yes’ and ‘no’.

For all those who whispered ‘no’, I’ve been there, you are SO not alone.

That’s why I’m going to share the MINDSET SHIFT that took me from ‘thinking’ about a vision board workshop to actually ‘doing’ it.

Before I let you in on the 4-step process, here’s a little context.

If you don’t believe, you won’t succeed

Years ago, while working as a waitress, freelancer, and babysitter, I set up a card-making business on Etsy.

I ordered a bunch of stuff, hired someone to make a logo, bought all the tools, did one card-making workshop, and spent $400.

“Wow, how many cards did you sell?”

ZERO (although I made half of a really good card at the workshop).

With all my other jobs, I had no real time to invest in a new business.

Flash forward to Thrive Lounge.

I went BIG on creating systems, processes, and schedules that would make sure I had time to invest in Thrive Lounge.

I showed up before work every day like clockwork and was able to concentrate on my Blog and book and set up my course.

Then I blocked out Sundays to create videos and content.

Now I have multiple courses, support my students, and host events.

The BIG difference?

I believed I had a story to share, that I was meant to create vision board workshops, and they are needed in this world.

And I BELIEVED MYSELF when I said it.

If you want to host vision board parties (or set up any kind of business), and truly BELIEVE you are going to make it happen, here are the 4 priorities to keep the momentum going.

Believe what you tell yourself

To host a successful workshop, you’ve got to show up confident.

This confidence needs to be built up from day one.

You have to believe that you already ARE that successful host, act accordingly, ‘walk the walk’ and ‘talk the talk’.

People have to feel that confident energy coming off you and BELIEVE in what you are doing, whether it’s on social media, when reaching out to your audience to attend events, or hiring speakers.

Once you believe, move on to the next step.

Master your mindset

Fears are inevitably going to creep in, make you question yourself, and try to break that confidence you’re building.

“Can I actually do it, will people pay this much, what if no one comes?”

Close the door on these fears and throw away the key.

It is YOUR time to shine, and fear has no business being there.

But what if an event that flops?

You stand tall and bank that teachable moment for what NOT to do next time around.

Master your mindset to believe you’ve got this, and no matter what gets thrown at you, or if fear manages to squeeze out from under the door, you know you’ll get through it.

Take the actions that matter

When you believe yourself, stay out of the failure mind traps, you’re going to show up like you’re already that success.

Now it’s time to capitalize on your mindset and take ACTION.

What are the things that ‘Successful You’ do?

THIS is what you need to be focusing on, whether it’s social media, emails, blogs, podcasts, or videos.

The most important thing is to make sure these actions MATTER and are the stepping stones to vision board party success.

Be consistent and show up for yourself

Consistency means showing up day after day after day.

Even if there’s a setback or a bad day, the next time the sun comes up you’re at it again, no excuses.

No matter what the adverts say, you don’t get 10k followers overnight!

Growing an audience and community takes strategy, time, effort, and consistent quality content.

People need time to get to know you, trust in you and what you’re selling before they are willing to hand over their credit cards.

If someone’s going to come to your vision board workshop, they need to know they can count on you before, during, and after.

To be and stay successful, you’ve got to be consistent for the business and your audience.

Success is in reach, take action today

Every day that you wake up and do the work, you’re ‘voting’ for the person you want to be.

The more that you do it, the more you become that person, and you’re showing up as a success and your dreams are becoming a reality.

Believe in yourself, master your mindset, take the actions that matter, and be consistent.

You’re literally creating your future and it all starts with YOU believing you.

The 4 vision board workshop formats that always deliver

The 4 vision board workshop formats that always deliver.png

Does the idea of hosting a vision board workshop light a fire in your soul, but you’re still in the dark when it comes to the logistics?

“How long should my event be?”

“How many activities do I include?”

“What’s the best format to help my attendees reach their goals?”

I get asked these questions all the time by my students.

Choosing the right vision board workshop format means knowing the transformation you want your audience to walk away with and what YOU are prepared to invest into the workshop.

But before you go down the rabbit hole of trying to DIY a format in the dark, read on!

Today I’m answering ALL the questions and laying out the 4 types of vision board workshops, so you can choose which is right for you.

The ‘Teaser’: A Great Place to Start

Essentially a quick or beginner workshop, the Teaser is a great way to give your intended audience a taste of what is to come.

Think of it like the chips and salsa you get handed with the menu when you sit down at your favorite Mexican spot. Or if you’re at a fancy restaurant, the ‘hors d'oeuvre’!

Those smokey, crunchy chips and that fresh, fragrant salsa really get your taste buds going.

If you like what you taste, I’ll bet you can’t wait for your actual meal.

The Teaser is usually under 90 minutes and a way to showcase your teaching style and personality.

The audience should walk away knowing who you are, your specialty, and the kind of transformation they can expect from working with you.

The goal is to have them sign up for your full coaching session or training before they walk out the door.

The ‘Full Workshop’: Where Vision Boards are Made

If the Teaser is the hors d'oeuvre, a Full Workshop is the appetizer.

It will open the appetite, take the edge off your hunger, but you’ll likely be left wanting more.

With this format, you’re expanding on the elements of the teaser, deep-diving into goal setting and vision clarity, and getting started on the visions boards themselves.

There are no hard and fast rules, but a Full Workshop generally lasts around 2-4 hours with more coaching and self-exploration.

You should include ice breakers, activities to help start the self-exploration journey, and either get people started on a vision board or even creating their own vision board workshop.

A Full Workshop is far more hands-on, you can get fun and creative with it, and there’s time for your audience to dig deep and also make connections.

The ‘Retreat’: An Unplugged Getaway

Taking people away from the day-to-day, getting them to create time and space for themselves, and watching life-altering transformations happen is about as rewarding as it can get.

I think of this as the main course. Done right, it’s a game-changer.

A Retreat is a chance for people to escape life’s everyday demands and mental clutter, devote 100% of their focus on themselves, and really listen to that inner voice.

I call it the ‘unplugged getaway’, and it’s one of my favorites.

When your guests are in this mindset, you can go so much deeper, and the transformations are that much more powerful.

A Retreat can be anywhere from 1 to 5 days and can incorporate a whole host of other activities, like yoga, hikes, and meditation.

You can play around with the content and length but ensure there is time for guests to finish their vision boards.

Just make sure to include whatever it takes to help guests switch off so they can switch on to what matters and let that all-important transformation happen.

The ‘Bonus Experience’: Turn Learning Into Reality

You’re already offering your clients a specialized coaching service, actively helping them on their life’s journey, but you’re looking to take it to the next level.

I think of this as the dessert that puts the icing on the cake of a great meal.

I have a lot of coaches come into my programs looking to up-level their vision board workshops.

They want to help clients take everything they’ve learned and put it into action to move forward with their dreams.

Say you’re a financial coach who’s helped clients fix their money problems.

By adding a vision board experience, you can help them envision what life will look like now that their money issues are a thing of the past.

I even had a photographer wanting to add a vision board element to their course to help clients visualize their future art and how they would put it out into the world.

The Bonus Experience is an awesome tool for business owners and coaches to take their clients one step further on their self-discovery journeys.

Make A Transformative Difference to Someone’s Life

Whatever your end goal for your vision board workshop, or the appetite of your intended audience, there’s a format to suit. Let’s do a quick recap:

  • The ‘Teaser’ will provide a mini-mindset-shift and showcase how you’re capable of helping your audience reach a full transformation.

  • The ‘Full Workshop’ gets your audience big results towards their transformative journey.

  • The ‘Retreat’ unplugs from the day-to-day and takes them on a deeper discovery.

  • The ‘Bonus Experience’ adds an extra life-changing layer to the service you’re already offering.

These 4 amazing experiences will ensure your audience will walk away with a transformation, and every transformation, big or small, is a step closer to making someone’s dreams come true.
